Pre-Launch Update - August 2018
As the Speak My Language program’s official launch on August 22nd nears, our excitement in sharing with you conversations about how culturally and linguistically diverse seniors can age happily and healthily in Australia grows!
The Speak My Language team has been working hard to bring together a variety of passionate Bilingual Facilitators and Radio Hosts from a diverse range of language backgrounds, supporting them in creating Cafe Conversations and Radio Programs covering a range of priority aged care topics.
Over the past few months we have:
Held a number of training sessions for our Bilingual Facilitators, who will be hosting Speak My Language programs in nine languages, including Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish and Macedonian. These sessions took place in NSW and VIC, providing us the opportunity to meet each of these passionate people and work through the unique resources we have developed for the program. A tangible sense of excitement came through in these training sessions, the bilingual facilitators all leaving buzzing with positivity and an eagerness to start planning their podcasts and radio programs.
Meet our passionate Bilingual Facilitators here:
Initiated Cafe Conversions discussing priority aged care topics, which are being recorded and edited as we speak. From our launch we will begin rolling out programs in Macedonian, Serbian, Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, and Greek. If your language is not yet included, don't worry, as more languages will be made available later down the track.
Planned the Speak My Language program official launch on August 22nd 2018 at the magnificent Parliament House in Canberra. We will be releasing some pilot programs and sharing our achievements so far, including the website and training resources we have expertly developed. We are honoured to have the program launched by Honourable Ken Wyatt AM, MP the Federal Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health.
The Speak My Language team are humbled to be working with such hardworking and passionate people who share our excitement to begin broadcasting in-language conversations about healthy and happy ageing in Australia.
